The French American Chamber of Commerce celebrated its 20th anniversary on May 31st with a reception and gala dinner held at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel. Special guests included his Excellency, Jean-David Levitte, Ambassador of France, the honorable Frédéric Desagneaux, Consul General of France in San Francisco, as well as congressman Jim McDermott. A couple hours prior to the reception, Mr. Levitte took part in the Seattle International Film Festival where he introduced the movie “La Maison de Nina” to a special audience of 400 high school students to whom he emphasized the responsibility and necessity, as American citizens, to be open and understanding of foreign countries and cultures. During the gala dinner, François Ladsous, Deputy Director, retraced 20 years of FACCPNW history while Jack Cowan acknowledged all the past presidents of the non-profit: Bertrand Pelletier, Michel Robert, Anne Brixner, Bill King, Susan Gates and Marry Sisson. Finally, his Excellency, Jean-David Levitte, reiterated the strong ties holding France and the United States together, despite their occasional differences. He also awarded Susan Gates with the medal of Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite and Michel Robert and George Lyden with the medals of Chevalier de l’Ordre du Mérite Agricole. The event was sponsored in parts by Safran and Areva.
