MUCKLESHOOT
TRIBE WELCOMES THE GLOBE TO ALL NATIONS CUP GROUNDS
The wait for
Seattle area soccer fans is almost over, in a short time
the 4th annual All Nations Cup will begin with an Opening
Ceremony hosted by the Muckleshoot Tribe.
On Friday July 14th, just one week after the FIFA World
Cup ends, Seattle's own All Nations Cup 2006 will open,
beginning the two week long soccer tournament and cultural
festival. This year 37 local teams will represent their
home countries at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila.
As representatives of their countries and wearing traditional
dress, each team will be welcomed by the Muckleshoot Tribe
in the tradition of the Coast Salish Tribes. Following the
traditional protocol for acknowledging and greeting guests
coming onto Muckleshoot land, the All Nations Cup Opening
Ceremony promises to be a moving ceremony celebrating the
colors of our area, as well as celebrating our common humanity.
Right after the ceremony, All Nations Cup will begin as
Opening Match, Mexico verses Guatemala kicks off in the
Stadium. The next day Qualifiers Festival Weekend will continue
as fifty eight matches will be played and decided. And it's
not just soccer; the Qualifiers Festival Weekend features
music, dances, and food around the world, as well as numerous
youth activities.
On July 29th the Championship Match will mark the end of
All Nations Cup 2006 as one team emerges as the All Nations
Cup Champions and the tournament closes with the Closing
Celebration featuring Grammy nominated Brazilian musician
Jovino Santos Neto and his Band Alecrim.
